Well today was supposed to be a glorious day of getting haircuts, going swimming or to the zoo and hopefully picking flowers for my next batch of jelly... but things never go according to plan around here so that didn't happen! Lol...
We did manage to get haircuts for all the kids thanks to my Mom! After the lady that offered to do them for free had a situation come up and couldn't make it after we had already made it to town and we were already going to meet Mom she was my savings grace... I searched online and found a sale at Great Clips, which was nearby so we went there. Then after getting the good ole "bait and switch" from Great Clips... ...So we took our chances and went to Regency, a local beauty school, where they are at least straightforward with their pricing. (Did you know that Great Clips won't honor coupons or sales online on your phone?...you have to actually have to have a paper coupon!)
Aiden was the biggest protester over getting a haircut and then he was the first volunteer... He has been persistent about wanting hair that is longer in the back and that covers his ears... then Grandma bribed him with Pokemon gear... so maybe not so surprising that we got some awesome co-operation and great behavior...
We have been trying for a while to convince Aiden he was going to get a haircut and he wasn't going to throw a fit. He is 8 now, but when we make him do things he is not on board with it can get embarrassing for all of us. Grandma got the hair above the ears and shorter in the back without any tears or talking back...with just the promise of a reward.
He had so much hair on top of his head the hair dresser actually had to divide it into sections with clips....
His hair dresser took her time, asked questions and snipped away until Aiden had a very nice hair cut! In the end we were all thrilled with the results!
Ta-da! We removed an extra head or two of hair and there was a handsome little boy under there...Lol! Now he is all ready for back-to-school night this week and the first day of Third grade next week!
Isabella was the second volunteer...I just needed her hair trimmed and I really wanted to figure out how to get it to curl under in the back. Now, with Regency being a beauty school, our hair dresser was a student. She had done really well on Aiden's hair with some instruction from her supervisor...but Isabella's hair seemed to be challenging for her to cut as well... It really worried me when she said she only knew how to do an undercut without shaving the underside... We talked it out and I explained to the instructor what I was looking for and I think the method they used is going to work. It was great how patient they were with our large group and I liked that the hair dresser asked questions before cutting when she was unsure of the best method to use.
Isabella has thick hair like I do...and she has more of it on the left side of her head than the right side...so it's tricky...
I am going to have to see what happens after her hair is washed and dried again to see if it's gonna work, but for now at least she looks cute and she likes it! Mom and I don't like the way it "frames" her face... but I think the only way to fix that part at this point is to let it grow... Sometimes it's nice that they can't see their hair as well as we can... hehehe...
Emma was the last to go and honestly I could have handled cutting her hair on my own, but her Grandma didn't want her to feel left out and so she got a turn too!
Tomorrow I need to finish packing their stuff up for Back-to-School Night and getting things labeled for school. Then the only thing left to do will be to get outfits picked out for the first day and enjoy the last few days of their Summer Break!
