Josh and I got the opportunity to go to Manchester, NH this week. Though it was a short trip we made the most of it and made sure to laugh and smile.
Our trip started with a flight out of Roanoke Regional to Philly, PA and then a connecting flight to Manchester, NH.
I took tons of pictures from the planes to and from home...
... and these are some of my favorites!
This is my favorite of the in-air pictures though! !?!My cellphone camera was actually fast enough to capture the propellor of the plane mid-flight!?! It was invisible to the naked eye, but not the camera!
We didn't even make it out of the airport before we started finding interesting things! This sculpture is part of a "Life Art" collection that is amazing and you can see more of his sculptures here.
Gentex Corporation
(This video is a bit lengthy, but it is a great look at the company that acquired Aegisound earlier this year and how they got started...actually making making textiles with silk in the very beginning and how they grew and evolved into the company they are today.)
Once we got our checked bag and rental car we reported to Gentex and got our schedule ironed out. There were a couple of meetings each day, but there was also time for us to poke around and see what the area is like too!
On Thursday afternoon we got to drive out to the coast. It was cool and windy to us, but the locals seemed to be enjoying the afternoon. A few were even brave enough to get in the water without a wetsuit, but not many... haha... I did hear the jet stream carries warmer water up to Maine, but IDK about that... I wasn't brave enough to walk the beaches since I had chosen to leave my hoodie at home, but I definitely took the time to snap pictures here and there and just enjoy the drive. We started out at Seabrook, NH and drove up 1A to Portsmouth along the coast.
There are sections of beach separated by sections of rocky shoreline, but it was all beautiful! It only takes about 45 minutes to get from Manchester to the coast and then I would say we drove maybe another 20-30 minutes to get up to Portsmouth.
We had a nice meal at Old Ferry's Landing complete with real New England Clam Chowder actually made in New England! --If you can't tell I was really excited about this-- We also shared a seafood platter of fresh caught fried shrimp and clams and it was all delicious! Plus we made our first stop on "The Eagle Parade" in Portsmouth, NH just outside the restaurant. There are 46 Eagles total that have been painted to honor our veteran's. Click here to find out how you can see them too!
These two eagles were found on our stroll from the parking garage to the restaurant. We did find another one on the way out of town, but we were driving and couldn't get a picture in time.
I guess that means we will have to try to come back and find the other 43 one day and photograph all 46!
We could see Maine across the river, but didn't quite have time to make it over there too. Here you can see the Piscataqua River and the view from just outside the Old Ferry Landing and Maine!
I also really like the compass engraved in the sidewalk of the port and getting a little time to explore Portsmouth itself.
The sidewalks were all done in bricks and there were streets and alleys of neat stores. We went in one store, entered another through an inside door and then ended up on a balcony with a spiral staircase that led down to a third store. It was a bit of a maze but it was really neat to be able to see how it how connected on the inside!
Then we found a novelty store with everything from old Raggedy Ann Dolls, to Slinky Dog toys, to dirty gifts, to kaleidoscopes and everything in between.
These are a few pictures of some of the neat stuff we saw. It was refreshing to be able to walk through time seeing toys from my childhood and finding things that were so wrong they were funny. And it was nice to have a good laugh with my hubby!Macro Polo is definitely worth the visit if you are ever in Portsmouth, NH. If you can't make it to NH you can take a look at their website here.
Fall is already getting underway in NH. I captured a picture of some beautiful reds and oranges adorning a lone branch of a tree while we were in Bedford, NH. The mornings were crisp, warranting a light sweater, mid-day got warm/hot and then it was time for a sweater again in early afternoon.
It seemed like we were never far away from water. This is one of many lakes that we passed by in our travels. It is Massabesic Lake next to 28B headed north. There were several picnic areas and so much beautiful scenery along this route that is another great drive in the Manchester Area.
We knew we wanted to bring the kids something back since they didn't get to go with us, but we hadn't found what we were looking for until we found the cute Moose! They had three different styles and we got a great bargain on them! I also wanted to bring Mom something, especially since she had to hire someone to care for her animals to come take care of my kids, but since I couldn't get the clam chowder home to her I brought her maple syrup instead!
While we were off in NH Mom was kind enough to move into our apartment and keep the kids in their normal routine for school. She did a great job of taking care of everything and they almost made it through incident free....and then poor Emma had a nightmare and kicked the fishtank off the nightstand. She was so upset, but we all worked together (Mom, the neighbors and I) to get the fish some new water and take care of the mess...
For now, the fish are living in a mixing bowl with a colander on top until we can find Aiden's other fish tank... smh... Life's never boring around here that's for sure!
And now...I think it's time to rest, get back to life as normal this weekend and get ready for the Cub Scouts Popcorn Sales Kick-Off Meeting on Monday!
