"A Murder is Announced"

Last night was date night.  This month it was my turn to plan our date and I wanted to do something different.  After some searching on the web I found a theatre in Fincastle, VA. They are putting on a play based on an Agatha Christie novel.  It was a nice drive down 220, we got to see some beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountians, and we skirted a storm for awhile.  I actually planned things out almost perfectly, with extra time to look at the area and plenty of time for dinner before the show, we weren't rushed at all for a change, it was soooo nice.

This is a shot of the mountains as we headed back towards Fincastle on 220.  We overshot our destination, but the scenery we got to take it was well worth the extra miles we traveled.  One thing is for sure, Fincastle is tiny, if you blink you could miss it.

While I was researching Finastle to see what was out that way, I found awesome reviews for Leonardo's Pizza & Subs.  It had gotten excellent reviews as the best place in town to eat.  We decided to try the meat pizza and the spinach piza.  They were excellent, but the canolis seemed pre-made and really did not impress me at all.   I did like the nice family atmosphere and the spacious dining area, it was not noisy like I had read in other reviews, but it was also a Thursday night, so that may have made a difference.

After a nice dinner, we headed over to "Attic Productions" to see "A Murder is Announced."  We were a little apprehensive at first as we saw more and more grandparents arriving to take in the show.  The gentleman sitting beside us even commented "I bet you guys are too young to know who Agatha Christie is!"  By the time the play started the audience was peppered with families as well.  The play was divided into 6 acts and though the first 3 seemed to take forever, as the background info was delivered and characters were established --- the second half was much more entertaining.  During the second half, the play reveals deception and twists that were unexpected.  In the end it was a good story, and though not high tech like the movies are, a good show overall.   If you do decide to take in a show, my only recommendation would be to make sure you have a jacket or dress warm and enjoy the show.
